Absentee ballots have been counted, but the race for the Common Council seat in Albany's 11th ward is not over.
On primary night, Alfredo Balarin was 32 votes ahead of incumbent councilor Judd Krasher. Now with the final vote in, 162 for Balarin, 139 for Krasher, two other Democratic challengers lagged behind. Krasher tells WAMC via email he’s “staying in the race on the Independence line and will run a vigorous campaign." Balarin tells the Times Union "there's still more work to be done" and will continue campaigning. With a November win Balarin would be the first Latino to hold office in Albany city government.
