Albany Police Arrest Package Thief: Warn Residents To Be Vigilant

Wikipedia

With many holiday gift packages still in transit, Albany police are warning citizens about "porch pirates."

A recent survey by the home security firm Ring found 20 percent of households have been a victim of package theft this year.

The proliferation of e-commerce and the opioid epidemic have given rise to so-called "porch piracy." Albany Police spokesman Steve Smith:  "Officers received a call from a neighbor in the area of Van Buren Street and Washington Avenue, reporting that they observed a man they observed a man who they believed was responsible for stealing a package from one of their neighbors the day prior."

Police say the package was recovered and a man was charged with larceny. Smith says if you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood, call the police.
