Community Leaders To Consider Another Vote on Hydropower Dam Deal

Bellows Falls, VT – The Rockingham, Vermont Select Board will consider whether to hold yet another vote on buying the Bellows Falls Hydroelectric Dam when it meets on Tuesday. Last week voters overwhelming rejected a proposal for the town to purchase the Bellows Falls Hydroelectric Station and create a municipal utility. That reversed the results of a November vote, and took supporters of the plan by surprise.

NY Congressman to Introduce Airport Security Bill

Vermont Transit Adjusts Routes, Ends Service To Albany NY

Burlington, VT – Vermont Transit Lines is restructuring its route system and many smaller stops are being eliminated. But their plans also call for an end to its bus service from Burlington, Vermont to Albany, New York. Officials cite high fuel costs as the key reason for the change.

Citizens Group Protests Sentencing

Pittsfield, MA – The ciitizens group today protesting the state's two-year minimum, mandatory sentence for several youths accused of dealing marijuana in a school zone. This, as the trial of one of the accused continues in Berkshire Superior Court.

Towns Block Conservation Easement Deal

Hopkinton, NY – In April 2004, New York Governor George Pataki and International Paper announced an agreement that would allow public use of 257-thousand acres of Adirondack forest land thru conservation easements. But the deal has been stalled by four Adirondack towns over the issue of snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and a bridge that would link the trails.

Jury Recommends Death Penalty in Vermont Murder Case

Burlington, VT – It took roughly ten hours of deliberations over two days for a Vermont jury to recommend that Donald Fell should be put to death for kidnaping and killing Vermonter Terry King in New York State five years ago. The sentence was handed down just before noon Thursday in Vermont's first capital punishment trial in nearly a half-century.
