Grant Allows Vermont to Spend More to Fight Drug and Alcohol Abuse

Montpelier, VT – Vermont will be able to double the amount it spends to fight drug and alcohol abuse, thanks to a federal grant. Those working in prevention programs are urging the state to carefully consider just how they distribute the funds to prevention programs.

Senator Ted Kennedy Presents $2 Million Dollars For Upgrades To North Adams Infrastructure

North Adams, MA – Renovated theaters have helped jump-start ailing downtowns all over the Northeast region. The list includes Poughkeepsie, Albany, Schenectady and Pittsfield. Now, North Adams in the Berkshires is getting an infusion of Federal money to help rebuild a shuttered theater...and to help rebuild area roadways. Paper Mill Revises Permit Request for Burning Tires as Fuel

Ticonderoga, NY – International Paper has re-submitted to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation a revised permit request for a test burn of tire-derived fuel at its mill in Ticonderoga, New York. The plant hopes the review of the new application will be followed by a draft permit. But before that happens, there are still weeks of public and environmental compliance scrutiny. And opponents of the test burn, especially in Vermont, are not backing down.
