Police in Berkshire Hilltown Indicted on Fraud Charges

Hinsdale, MA – Several current and former members of the Hinsdale, Massachusetts Police Department have been indicted on fraud charges after a two-year investigation.

Coast Guard Investigating 'Hoax'

Burlington, VT – Federal officials are investigating what the Coast Guard says was a fake distress call earlier this week that claimed a boat with children on board was taking on water in Lake Champlain. The call forced emergency responders to divert some rescue services away from a fatal boating accident that had actually occurred on the lake. The Coast Guard has released the tape of the prank distress call in hopes that someone will recognize the voice.WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley reports.

Rare Sighting of Whooping Crane in Vermont

Cornwall, VT – A rare whooping crane that was apparently thrown off course during her migration to the Midwest has ended up in rural Vermont. Bird-watchers have been able to observe the bird for over a week as it forages in farm fields in Addison County.

Advocates: Canada's Threat Should Force Reform At Home

Plattsburgh, NY – Canada's health minister says his country cannot continue to be a cheap drug store for the United States. He's vowing to ban bulk export of prescription drugs when supplies are low at home. Advocates of prescription reimportation in our region are curious about the minister's motivation for his announcement, and say he has dropped the gauntlet for U-S legislators to get their act together to create affordable drug policy.
