Lawmaker Calls on NYS D-E-C to Require Power Plant Upgrade

Newburgh, NY – A Congressman from the Hudson Valley is urging New York's Department of Environmental Conservation to require the owner of a power plant in Orange County to reduce its water intake from the Hudson River. He and environmentalists support one method in particular they say would spare numerous fish. The plant's owner says such a system is too expensive. WAMC's Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Allison Dunne has more.

Permit Violations Put House Construction on Hold

North Elba, NY – The Adirondack Park Agency, which regulates land use in the six-million-acre Adirondack Park, has suspended the building permit on a house just outside Lake Placid while they investigate violations of permit requirements.

Setback In Attempts to Rescind Provision of Patriot Act

Washington, D.C. – Vermont Congressman Bernie Sanders submitted an amendment this week to the Patriot Act Re-authorization Bill that would eliminate Section 215, which allows government access to individuals' library and bookstore records. Wednesday night the House Committee on Rules denied movement on the Sanders' amendment, effectively keeping Section 215 part of the Patriot Act.
