Albany, NY – Urban centers in the Northeast plagued by gang violence are coming to realize that it is no longer just an inner city problem. Suburban neighborhoods, especially in upstate New York, are seeing rising tides of gang-related crime. The New York State Investigation Commission is now looking at ways of curbing the violence.

Congressman Calls for Eavesdropping Investigation

Kingston, NY – Democratic Congressman Maurice Hinchey of Ulster County has unveiled his official demand for an investigation into President Bush's secretly authorized domestic surveillance program conducted without court warrants. NY to toughen sex offender laws

Albany, NY – The New York State Legislature is rushing to keep convicted sex offenders on the state registry.The current law establishing a sex offender registry in the state, Megan's Law, is set to expire in two weeks. The State Senate is calling for lifetime registration right now, while the Assembly wants to wait for word from Washington about implementing a federal sex offender registry.
