AAA Lobbies for Gasoline Tax Cap

Newburgh, NY – With New York state gasoline prices among the highest in the Northeast region, the American Automobile Association is urging state legislators to put a cap on the gasoline tax.

Albany, NY – Harlem in the early 1940's is the setting for the newest historical novel by Kevin Baker, "Strivers Row." Third in the author's "City of Fire" trilogy of New York novels, the book examines the parallel experiences of Jonah Dove, a Harlem clergyman undergoing a crisis of faith, and a directionless teenager named Malcolm Little who is destined to be known by another name. The novel recreates a Harlem at the end of its period as America's black capital and builds toward an explosive draft riot.

Protesters Boycott Indian Point Plant

Peekskill, NY – Over 500 members of at least 70 environmental, health and public policy advocacy groups boycotted yesterday's Nuclear Regulatory Commission's annual public meeting near the Indian Point nuclear power complex in northern Westchester. The commission gave Indian Point a thumbs up for its safety record, but the public groups gave a strong thumb-down. WAMC's Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Deborah Runcie has more.
