WalMart Proposes Saranac Lake Super-Center

Saranac Lake, NY – Retail giant Wal-Mart has announced its interest in building a 121-thousand square foot super-center in the village of Saranac Lake. Most in the community agree there's a need for a major retailer, but some are unnerved by the size of the store WalMart is proposing. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more.

Cancer deaths on the decline

Albany, NY – The American Cancer Society says the number of cancer deaths in the United States is showing a history-making decline for the first time in 70 years. The organization predicts 565,000 cancer deaths in the country this year--a number anti-smoking and cancer prevention awareness campaigns are helping to lower. In New York's Capital Region those campaigns are going strong, with signs of getting stronger.

Extending Medicare Part D Enrollment

Central Hudson Clean-Up May Cost Customers

Newburgh, NY – The Department of Environmental Conservation's plan with Central Hudson Gas & Electric Company to clean-up the waterfront in Orange County, has brought about concern and criticism. The plan is expected to cause major rate hikes for Central Hudson customers.

Program Launched to Provide Venezuelan Oil to Low-income Vermonters

Vergennes, VT – Vermont is the latest state to receive discounted and free heating fuel oil from CITGO, an oil company owned by Venezuela. Vermonters and officials from Venezuela gathered in front of the John W. Graham Emergency Shelter in Vergennes, Vermont on Tuesday for the official announcement.
