CSEA vs. Thruway Legal Battle Escalates

One of the state's largest unions has accused the New York State Thruway Authority and Canal Corporation of threatening layoffs to get union officials to agree to contract concessions.

Complaints have been filed with the New York State's Public Employment Relations Board. CSEA spokesman Stephen Madarasz confirms the union has charged the Cuomo administration with Taylor Law violations. The Taylor Law grants public employees the right to organize and elect their union representatives.

State, environmental groups agree on new TZ Bridge environmental issues

TARRYTOWN – The state has reached an agreement with environmental groups Riverkeeper and Scenic Hudson on permits that will include extensive environmental protective measures and mitigation funding to protect the Hudson River and minimize environmental impacts during construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge.

As a result, the state Department of Environmental Conservation Wednesday issued an environmental permit containing the protections authorizing the New York State Thruway Authority to proceed with construction.

A New York State Senator is urging his colleagues in the legislature to pass a bill that he says could help finance part of the construction of the replacement Tappan Zee Bridge.

Republican Senator Greg Ball, knowing that more funding is needed to build a replacement Tappan Zee Bridge, says he wants legislators to pass a public-private partnership, or P3, bill.

NY Thruway to lay off 234 workers, cite hard times

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The New York State Thruway Authority is planning 234 layoffs to help shore up its finances, but no toll increases are planned.

Thruway spokesman Dan Weiller says the layoffs of full-time workers will be in all regions, including the Albany headquarters. The authority employs 29,068 workers.

Weiller says no toll increases of any type are planned.
