Margaret Thatcher, the first and only woman prime minister of Great Britain, left a personal style and political legacy that will be debated for years to come. Like her American ally and friend, Ronald Reagan, she took power at a time when her nation was seen by many to be in economic and international decline.

Professor Roy Ginsberg, chair of the department of government at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, spoke today with WAMC’s Brian Shields on the Thatcher-Reagan alliance.

Widely recognized as one of the best record producers working, Don Was has worked with artists including Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Elton John, Willie Nelson and Brian Wilson. He has earned multiple Grammy Awards including Producer of the Year in 1995. A native of Detroit, Was grew up listening to jazz, blues, and the Rolling Stones.

He presented Skidmore College’s annual Carr Distinguished Interdisciplinary Lecture on Monday, April 1.

'Skidmore Stalker' in court Wednesday

The so-called "Skidmore Stalker" has waived extradition and will be returned to Saratoga County.

Authorities tell the Albany Times Union that 49-year old Lance Leonard appeared in an Atlantic City courtroom on Wednesday and declared he would not fight his return to New York. He was arrested earlier this month after allegedly threatening a Skidmore College student. The campus was locked down for a time after the threat was received.

In 2006, thirteen men and women from Maine participated in study titled “Body of Evidence: A study of Pollution in Main People” sponsored by the Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Maine, which sought to draw attention to the growing presence of toxic chemicals in everyday consumer products. The study looked for a handful of known toxins and heavy metals, some which have been around forever, such as lead and arsenic and some, which are relatively new, such as phthalates, flame retardants, and perfluorinated chemicals.
