There is talk in Albany about a plan that would provide financial aid and other assistance to college-bound illegal immigrants.

The idea is to provide a way to help poor immigrant families afford college. Similar proposals in New York and the nation have faced strong opposition from conservatives.

WAMC Northeast Public Radio Raises Money for Superstorm Sandy Victims

On Thursday, November 8, WAMC/Northeast Public Radio held a special fund drive, opening up the phone banks to raise support for the victims of Superstorm Sandy. For eight hours, WAMC listeners called in non-stop with pledges for the American Red Cross and when the dust settled, a total of $240,000 was raised and pledges were still coming in.

David Clark is Chair and Professor of Biology at Alma College in Alma, Michigan, where his research is focused on animal communication and the evolution of visual displays. His most recent research project examined habitat light characterization and visual displays in wolf spiders. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati.

The unemployment rate in Massachusetts has been stuck at 6.9 percent for three consecutive months, according to the state's Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

Kevin Lynn of the FutureWorks Career Center in Springfield says it's a sign people who'd given up looking for work are returning to the labor market.

CT Receives Federal Grant to Boost Solar Capacity

Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced the over 480,000 dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Energy on Thursday afternoon.

The funding, to be used by the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority and its partners, aims to improve both the permit process and connectivity with Connecticut utilities.

BRATTLEBORO, VT (WAMC) - Dozens of protesters were arrested in Brattleboro for trespassing on Entergy property during a demonstration against the continue operation of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Reactor. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley reports...

Seven others were arrested after entering the headquarters of the plant's owner, Entergy Corp., in New Orleans.

Thursday marked the first day of the plant's operation after its initial 40-year operating license expired a day earlier.
